Maryville Farmers Market Project

Blount County Master Gardeners staff a booth at the Maryville Farmer’s Market on alternate Saturdays at Founder’s Square on East Broadway Avenue in downtown Maryville.  To see the schedule for the current season, visit MaryvilleFarmersMarket.org.

Volunteer Master Gardeners  have been a presence at the Maryville Farmer’s Market since the very first market’s opening day!  To see the schedule for the BCMG booth during the current season, please check the Calendar

During the season, when the Farmer’s Market is held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. or until sellout, the Master Gardener booth is open on alternate Saturdays to provide answers to community gardening questions.  In addition, information on a variety of garden topics is available, such as:

  • soil testing,
  • garden planning,
  • gardening techniques,
  • composting and use of cover crops as “green manure”,
  • key gardening resources available on the Internet.

On many Saturdays, Master Gardeners also offer a children’s activity table that features a small take-home garden project or a market produce related craft project.

The Blount County Master Gardener presence at the Farmer’s Market supports the mission of public education outreach and helps to advertised other free public education opportunities that may be planned throughout the year.  It also offers the opportunity for BCMG to provide information on how to become a Master Gardener in Blount County.

BCMG volunteers may support the booth by helping with the staffing, by designing and developing projects for the children’s activity table, or by collecting materials to support those projects.
